The Rat Pack: Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra

Here’s an oldie but goodie all the way back from 2009.

WIP: The Rat Pack

Things to note:

  • School boy error: I did the background last.
  • This was an exercise in painting (blocking in values) without drawing (outlining shapes and tone); you can see this with Frank’s coat starting off really blocky
  • The reference photo I used had Peter Lawford in it but I didn’t like his pose so I took him out.
  • I nearly completely re-did Frank. The hairline and the eyes in the first pass made him look a little like Jack Nicholson.
  • I worked on each figure left to right.
