Dropped into the Dolphin Hotel recently. It’s an old favourite; a great neighbourhood pub for a catchup over a couple of mid-week drinks or a bistro meal. Though it gets lively, it’s never overwhelming. The decor is clean and modern (think brushed metal and polished wood) but still laid-back.

Unless I’d totally glossed over it on their blackboard menu in the past, they now have grazing plates. We first try the Pork Belly served with cauliflower puree, apple paste & balsamic glaze. Yummo.

Pork Belly Grazing Plate $10

Next, we have the Seared Scallops with corn puree & semi-dried tomato. The generous serving was perfectly cooked. The corn puree was a sweet-on-sweet combination with the scallop flesh. Will definitely order it again.

Seared Scallops Grazing Plate $9

For one of our mains, we share the Braised Beef Cheeks, served with potato fondant, baby carrot & jus from the braising. So tender and rich; again a very generous serving.

Braised Beef Cheeks $25

To top it off, we have the King Prawn Linguini with lemon, chilli, parsley and rocket wilted in olive oil. Good but unremarkable relative to the other dishes.

King Prawn Linguini $22

The word? Been going here for years now and the bistro doesn’t disappoint. Great place for hearty meals and beers during the week (have never been during the weekend).

  1. I’m not 100% but did you meet me here one night with the Irish and we were extremely trashed? Or was that in Paddington. Do you know what I’m talking about?

    • I remember. It was the Royal Hotel in Paddington. I’m glad I’m not the only one who was struggling that night!
